Watch for CISA Acquisitions Coming Soon

With cybersecurity issues at the forefront of the U.S. government’s top concerns, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) just received its procurement authority within the past several months.  Under this #procurementauthority, CISA will have its own contract specialists for procuring acquisitions for the U.S. government.  Previously, CISA was a standalone component of the Department for Homeland Security.  CISA is now requesting $6.2 million in fiscal year 2023 for fifty positions. Another priority for CISA is to expand support to CISA’s field operations, including statewide cybersecurity directors and chemical security advisors.

CISA has emerged as a key player in responding to cybersecurity threats, taking a lead role in the cybersecurity of the Executive Branch and President Joe Biden.  Going forward, the organization hopes to focus on identity, credential, and access management (ICAM), an area of weakness.  More recently, #CISA has added a new team of advisors, organized under the Federal Enterprise Improvement Team (FEIT).  Congress is expected to update the Federal Information Security Modernization Act of 2014 which would codify CISA’s role in federal cybersecurity efforts.

CISA will benefit the #warfighters by ensuring cybersecurity at the highest level, the Executive Branch.  This is a hub of top-secret classified information that our enemies covet.  If CISA succeeds in safeguarding our federal government’s cyber portals, it will likewise protect our warfighters from being dragged into unnecessary combat due to cyber infiltration or sabotage by terrorists or enemies.

Those in the industry can expect to see more procurement opportunities from CISA in the foreseeable future, whether it be for services or supplies.
